چکیده

The mixing angle θ13 is the last mixing angle to be measured. A non-zero value of θ13 is key to the possibility of measuring CP violation in future long-baseline accelerator experiments. The best limit on θ13 comes from the reactor experiment CHOOZ.[1] It has recently been recognized that the best possibility for rapidly measuring a non-zero value of the parameter θ13 comes from a new reactor experiment using two or more identical detectors and improved control of systematic errors. During 2003, a group of neutrino physicists assembled for a series of workshops to explore the capabilities of a new nuclear reactor experiment. Together, they wrote a white paper called “A New Nuclear Reactor ν Experiment to Measure θ13”[2]. Several issues were addressed in this document:

From Double Chooz to Triple Chooz — Neutrino Physics at the Chooz Reactor Complex

We discuss the potential of the proposed Double Chooz reactor experiment to measure the neutrino mixing angle sin 2θ13. We especially consider systematical uncertainties and their partial cancellation in a near and far detector operation, and we discuss implications of a delayed near detector startup. Furthermore, we introduce Triple Chooz, which is a possible upgrade scenario assuming a second...

The Double Chooz Experiment

There is broad consensus in the worldwide physics community as to the need for a new reactor-neutrino experiment to measure or limit the neutrino mixing angle θ13. The Double Chooz Experiment, planned for operation in the years 2008−2011, will search for values of sin2 2θ13 down to ≈0.03. This will be the first new information on θ13 in over a decade and will cover most of the remaining paramet...

Review of θ13 and Prospects for Double Chooz

The Double Chooz reactor neutrino experiment will be the next detector to search for a non vanishing θ13 mixing angle with unprecedented sensitivity, which might open the way to unveiling CP violation in the leptonic sector. The measurement of this angle will be based on a precise comparison of the antineutrino spectrum at two identical detectors located at different distances from the Chooz nu...

Reactor Neutrino Experiments

Precisely measuring θ13 is one of the highest priority in neutrino oscillation study. Reactor experiments can cleanly determine θ13. Past reactor neutrino experiments are reviewed and status of next precision θ13 experiments are presented. Daya Bay is designed to measure sin 2θ13 to better than 0.01 and Double Chooz and RENO are designed to measure it to 0.02-0.03. All are heading to full opera...
